Journal: Instructions for Authors

Instructions to Authors

Aim and Scope.
The aim of the International Journal for the Advancement of Counselling (IJAC) is to promote the exchange of information and research about counselling throughout the world. Topics considered for publication by the IJAC include (a) theories and techniques of counselling; (b) counsellor education, supervision, and consultation; (c) cross-cultural counselling; (d) career or vocational counselling; (e) counselling in specific settings or with special populations; (f) counselling related to special client problems; (g) special applications and modalities of counselling; and (h) counselling in developing countries.

Guidelines for Authors.
Manuscripts submitted for consideration as general articles should be not more than 20 double-spaced pages, and should be written in English and formatted in APA style—see the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 4th ed. (1994). The manuscript should have uniform margins that are no less than 2.5 centimeters (or 1 inch), and the font size or size of print should be 12 points. The first page of the manuscript should include (a) the title of the paper, (b) each author’s name, job title, and organizational affiliation, and (c) an abstract of no more than 150 words. Brief papers can be considered based on conference presentations, counselling issues, or counselling cases. Brief papers are occasionally published in a section of the IJAC that is designated for brief articles. Manuscripts submitted for brief articles should not exceed seven (7) double-spaced pages. All manuscripts should contain international or cross-cultural implications or applications for counselling. Moreover, manuscripts submitted for review should be on European A4 paper (21 x 29.7 cm.) or USA letter-size paper (8.5 x 11 in.) and should be mailed in quadruplicate to the following address: Kluwer Academic Publishers, The Journals Editorial Office, International Journal for the Advancement of Counselling, P.O. Box 990, 3300 AZ Dordrecht, The Netherlands.

Tables and Figures.
Tables and figures that accompany manuscripts should be submitted on a separate page, and should conform to APA style. They should be numbered with Arabic numerals and each table or figure should carry a brief descriptive title. If the material is not original data but is derived from another source, a note describing the source should be provided at the bottom of the table or figure. In discussing individual tables and figures within the text of the manuscript, the author/s should refer to these by their Arabic numeral, e.g., “see Table 2.”

Publishing Policy.
Manuscripts are not automatically returned.  Therefore, authors are advised to keep a hard copy and an electronic copy of their manuscripts. Authors of accepted manuscripts are required to provide a hard copy and a computer diskette of the final version of the paper. This final version of the manuscript should include any revisions that are based on the editorial reviewers’ comments. The authors should not submit manuscripts for consideration to IJAC that have been simultaneously submitted to another or other journals for consideration. The Publisher will provide 50 offprints or reprints of each article free of charge to the author or senior author.

Permissions.
Written permissions of the copyright holder must be obtained by the author/s in order to quote from articles and books, unless only brief passages are being used. Written permission is also needed in order to reproduce all or part of a table or figure that has been published elsewhere. Permission is not needed, however, for material in the public domain.
